Black hole

Curiosity is human nature and this is what has led to many remarkable discoveries in the human history. We humans have a tendency to tread into the unknown. Space is a vast region and a lot of unknown objects exist in this unexplored place. Black hole is one such object about which we have very limited knowledge.

The idea of such object in the space has been around for centuries and has fascinated the researchers, physicists and astronomers. Most famously, the existence of black holes were predicted by Einstein's theory of general relativity.

A black hole is formed when a star with mass at least three or more times that of our Sun's collapses in on itself producing a magnificent explosion, called supernova explosion, it leaves behind a small, dense remnant core. The gravitational force of this infinitely dense core overpowers all other forces and produces a black hole.

The point where all that mass is concentrated is called a singularity. Imagine a circle with a singularity in its centre. This circle is known as event horizon. An event horizon is probably what you are thinking of when you think of a black hole. It is a point after which nothing returns and gets sucked into the black hole

It is not possible to directly observe the black hole with telescopes. However, we can infer their presence and study them by detecting their effect on nearby matter. Try as hard as you can but you won't find anything weirder, more interesting and cooler than a black hole
